While the roof is being built above, the painters are carefully trimming
the windows and doors. Andrea Lizarralde, a Citicorp volunteer from Ecuador, works on the front door of home
#32. |

After we got the top and bottom purlins in place, we paused to get the roof
perfectly square. On Thursday, a couple of U.S. marines joined the team. One is on the scaffold and the other, with
an orange hard hat, is below.

At each JCWP, Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter comes to meet each homeowner and have
photos with the teams. We are lined up well in advance and told to stand in one place in order to keep the Secret
Service happy. Carter made a presentation to each homeowner, and each reached down to touch his shoes. This
embarrassed Jimmy but it's an important Indian custom for receiving a blessing.

Then their photographer snapped a picture. Our house team is on the left. Behind the
Carters is Jonathan Reckford, the CEO of Habitat International.
|

Late in the afternoon, an unexpected rainstorm hit, but before that
we had some dramatic clouds. When it started to lightning and rain, we were ordered off the roof. We didn't
quite get as far as we had hoped on Thursday.
|

We are off the roof hoping it will quickly blow over. The roof is mostly
covered with corrugated galvanized iron. Some will require adjustments in the morning before we can put tiles on the house.
|

Breaks are always good times to snap a few photos, this one with John
Rajan. John works for Habitat in tsunami relief in Chennai, on the
southeast coast of India.
|

The sun is disappearing; more storms with greater severity would pass through
after dark.
