Chobe Animal List
Chobe National Park, in northern Botswana, is one of the premiere places to find game, especially birds, elephants, buffalo and hippos. We stayed in the very comfortable Chobe Safari Lodge and took two trips into the park, an early morning drive and an afternoon boat ride.

We saw a huge herd of buffalo, so big that one could never get an angle to photograph them all.  Later we saw a smaller herd in a scrubby area, and this bull kept an eye on us.

Hippos, elephants, and resting up in the bush, a large herd of buffalo.

The Chobe River has lots of crocodiles.  (Three tourists have been taken around Chobe Game Lodge in the past few years, and there are strong warnings about 1100 kg crocs.)

We stopped the boat and watched a group of elephants cross the channel of the river and head for an island.  At the deepest point, each went completely under water with its trunk bobbing up from time to time.

Elephants at dusk.

Jerry watches elephants from the boat.  At times, one could watch elephants on every side of use, with lots of kingfishers, fish eagles, cormorants, crocs, monitor lizards, carmine bee-eaters, and much more.
