In Nelspruit, we rented a car and headed for the main
entrance to Kruger National Park, one of the largest parks in Africa.
We checked into a rondovel (a round cottage with a thatched roof) in a camp
within the park. Just before dark, we left on a night-drive with a
warden in the chilly evening. Elephants, kudu, impala, crocodiles,
bush-babies, and more were illuminated by hand-held spotlights.
We drove from dawn to dusk on Wednesday. On
Thursday, we left our camp in the center of the park at dawn and drove to
the southern exit, leaving about noon.

A leopard on a morning stroll. We also saw a leopard on a night-drive.
I've spent a lot of time in African parks in the past, but these are the
first two leopards I've seen in the wild.

So, how many giraffes can you count here?
|
An African panorama. The birds in the trees are Africa's spectacular
fish eagles. They are beautiful to see and fascinating to watch
fish.
|
Klipspringers. These antelope live in rocky environments, moving much
like mountain goats..
|
There were lots of elephants in most parts of the park. These two were
sparring until the left-hand animal pushed the other across the road.
|
A female waterbuck.

My favorite antelope, a kudu bull.
We saw a lot of kudu, but getting a really good face-on picture was futile.
