South Pole Trip 2007
We went from Christchurch, NZ, to McMurdo Station in Antarctica on a C-17 jet.  There were about 120 passengers and a bunch of freight, about a quarter of which was headed on to the pole.
Landing on Pegasus field in McMurdo, an ice runway that stays solid year around.
We were extraordinarily fortunate in that a bunch of penguins followed an ice-breaker in to McMurdo.  They are rarely seen here.
They have no fear of people, and we are to stay back, but occasionally one will just walk up.
Pictures from the Pole experience are not yet ready.  Click here, however, to see pictures of the equipment that we deployed on Sunday, 1/14.  It was lowered to 1400m below the surface.
