Mt. Erebus, a 12,000 foot active volcano on the southern end of Ross Island, near McMurdo Station. The view is from Williams Field Skiway, the airfield in use during the trip.

Midnight (actually 1 am) looking out on the melting sea ice runway at McMurdo Station. This field, in use during the Antarctic spring, closed early this year due to premature melting.

Midnight at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, over the ceremonial south pole. Due to the movement of the ice of about 10 m per year, the actual Pole in 2004 was about 20 meters away.
