Deployment of an Digital Radio Module in the ice, 1450 m below the surface.  (See the Instrumentation Design Laboratory web site for more information about the neutrino observatory.)

The first step in deploying a Digital Radio Module is to mount a pressure vessel containing amplifiers to the cable with an antenna below it.

The DRM mounted to the cable. The DRM electronics are inside the glass sphere with a total of 6 penetrators. Three penetrators on the bottom go to a pair of pressure vessels and antennas below plus a transmitting antenna. On the top there is another pair of pressure vessels and antennas plus the red cable going to the surface. This assembly will be frozen into the ice 1450 m below the surface.
