The Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station

Photos of parts of the South Pole Station.

The South pole station. The old station is located under the dome. The new station is the large structure in the center. On the left is the circle of flags around the ceremonial South Pole. (Photo borrowed from the south pole web site.)

The "old" main station, the dome, dedicated in 1974 and now nearly covered.

Inside the dome which contains buildings for offices and housing. Free space is used to store food.

The new station continues to be under construction, and now houses the galley, medical center, store and Post Office, offices and housing.

The galley.

The kitchen.

A small greenhouse.

"Summer Camp" (the round-top structures) provides additional housing during the summer.
