The beautiful Livadia Palace was built by Tsar Nicholas II and came to world-wide fame as the site of the post-war negotiations between Josef Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt.  Roosevelt, who was in quite poor health, lived in the palace during the negotiations.

The room in which the discussions took place.  It was here, that among many other agreements, Churchill and Roosevelt gave in to the Stalin demands that Russian refugees be sent back to Russia.  About 30,000 Mennonites had made it to the west after great suffering in Ukraine and on the trip out.  Of these, 23,000 were returned.  The Soviet authorities loaded them on trains and dumped them in Kazakhstan and Siberia.
